Infrastructures
Working spaces for Graduate Students
Every student is entitled to a working space, located in the Library.
IT Facilities
Logging in and getting started: You will be provided with a personal login account, which will enable you to access word processing, internet and printing facilities. Ask to the Secreterial Assistant at CIRCAP, Ms Alice Mackenzie, for your personal login and your provisional password to activate your account. If you have your own laptop computer, you will be provided with an IP address in order to access the internet from the University network.
On computers dedicated to CIRCAP and on the computer shared with the Euromaster, you will be able to login with you personal login and password. Neither can be changed, so please learn them by heart! Moreover, we strongly encourage you NOT to pass it onto to somebody else, because 1) all your data, resources, etc. will be available under your login/password; 2) you are responsible for your own account: anything that happen to it will be your responsibility!
Location of computers: The computers are located in the library, where your working space is located.
Programmes available: The computers are equipped with latest GNU/Linux technology, including word processing, spreadsheet and presentation applications, as well as instant messaging and graphics software.
Saving your data: Your data will be stored on the server, therefore 1) nobody else will see your data when s/he logs in on that same computer 2) you will be able to retrieve that data on every computer of the lab.
Printing: a network printer is located in the lab and accessible from all the machines. Students are asked to provide themselves the paper they intend to use. No printing quota is set.
Graduate Students Forum
A web-based forum is provided in order to help graduate students to coordinate their work and to keep in touch even after their course of study is finished.

Library Regulations
You have borrowing privileges in the Library. The ‘bancone’ of the Library (i.e. people in charge of assisting you at the entrance) has received a list with the names of new PhD students. Upon your arrival, you should contact them to provide them with your details (address in Siena, etc.). Please, read the rules of the Library carefully. They are available at this address, together with most of the relevant information about the Library: http://www.unisi.it/servizi/sab/biblioteche/bcg/BCG.html
An introductory tour of the Library is offered in English at the beginning of classes. You are strongly recommended to attend it, in order to get acquainted with the basic information you might need.
More ‘advanced’ services are also available upon request, such as Inter-library Loans (prestito interbibliotecario) and consultation of CD-ROM databases and internet resources. Fur more information contact the staff in charge of the services.
